Teens hurled stones at 81-year-old man in 'disgusting' late-night attack

An 81-year-old man walking home from his local pub was was targeted by teenagers who shouted abuse and threw stones at him.

Robert Arfon Price, who goes by Arfon, had been at his local pub in Denbigh on Monday night to watch the Liverpool game with friends.

When he set off for home at around 10.30pm, he was followed by three teenagers, North Wales Live reports.

Mr Price said he first noticed the two boys and a girl, who he believed to be around 14 or 15 years old, when he was walking past the Plas Pigot on Ruthin Road.

He said: "I passed them on the main road, but I didn't take any notice of them until I started to hear the pitter-patter of feet behind me.

"I turned, and a hooded youth was running up behind me and threw a stone at me."

Mr Price said what shocked him most was that it was the girl who ran right up behind him to try to hit him with a stone.

"After that, they started following me, making noises and shouting comments," he said.

"I started to worry about what would happen if they followed me into the darker areas.

"I was getting angry by that point, but I think that helped keep them at a distance."

Robert's wife Jenny Price, 69, said: "I'm born and bred in Denbigh. My husband has lived here since 1962, and we have never seen anything like this.

"I am completely disgusted that this sort of thing is happening.

"I would certainly like to think the police and the council would bring something like the youth bans into place."

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: "We received a report at 9.14am today that a number of youths in Denbigh had harassed an 81-year-old man.

"The incident is being investigated by a member of the investigating teams unit.

"Anyone with information should contact 101, quoting the reference Y026863."
