Two teenage boys have been charged with slaughtering 14 kangaroos on the NSW South Coast on the weekend.

Police say they were called to the Long Beach area, near Batemans Bay, early on Saturday after reports a number of kangaroos had been killed.

Police and WIRES officers found five adult kangaroos and one joey dead on Blairs Road and Sandy Place.

A short time later, police were notified a further seven kangaroos and one joey had been found dead in the Maloneys Beach area.

They also found an injured joey which was taken into the care of WIRES.

Following a public appeal for information officers arrested two 17-year-old boys at Bateman's Bay Police Station on Monday.

The pair were issued with a court attendance notice for recklessly beating and killing animals.

They will appear at a children's court on November 22.
