Teenagers threatened with knife during attempted robbery

Two teenagers were threatened with a knife during a terrifying attempted robbery in Kilmarnock.

Police have tonight appealed for witnesses to the incident which took place at around 11.05pm on Friday evening in the town's Methven Avenue.

The 17-year-olds were approached by a man who threatened them with a knife and demanded their mobile phone and money, but the pair ran away from the suspect in the direction of Treeswoodhead Road.

The suspect is described as aged between 18 and 21, around 5ft 9in tall with short black hair and a curled fringe. He was wearing a dark Nike hoodie and dark trousers.

Detective Constable Kirsty Thomson, of Kilmarnock CID, said: "We're appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident, has dash-cam footage or saw a man fitting this description in the area shortly before or after the incident happened to contact us.

"Nobody was injured as a result of this incident, however, it was frightening ordeal for the victims who have been left understandably shaken."

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 4329 of 10 July or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
