Teenagers flock to country park for 'illegal rave' until 9am - trashing it with 'trolley-full of booze'

Music equipment, gazebos, bottles and cans were found at a country park after an illegal rave kept residents up all night.

Teenagers flocked to Moses Gate Country Park in Bolton on Saturday evening and partied until 9am on Sunday morning when police officers arrived to break up the group.

As the rave raged on, people were spotted on the way to the park with a 'shopping trolley filled with alcohol', said councillors in the area.

The patch of land behind Hacken Lane in Darcy Lever was left covered in litter.

Coun Hornby went to the scene after the party. He said: "The rave started on Saturday, tea time-ish. It was reported to the police but I believe they couldn't find the spot at first.

"I phoned the police at 9.35am on Sunday morning as it was still going on. There was loud music playing and obviously drinking, who knows what else was taking place as well.

"Within an hour the police had been to the site, I'm told by the officers that it was teenagers and they scarpered. But all the alcohol and music equipment was still there and was seized."

Adele Warren, a fellow Bolton councillor and Darcy Lever resident, heard the noise and also reported the rave to the police. She told the Manchester Evening News : "I woke up on Sunday morning and could hear the music.

"It was 9.30am and we could still hear it - everyone had been up all night.

"Then residents started reporting to me that they had seen people pushing a Tesco trolley full of music equipment and beer towards the park on Saturday night."

Illegal raves have been seen across Greater Manchester in recent weeks - some resulting in tragic consequences, including a fatal drug overdose at Daisy Nook Country Park in Oldham and a stabbing in Carrington.

Raves like this 'put everyone at risk', says Coun Hornby: "The country has been in lockdown for three-and-a-half months now and the majority of people have adhered to the rules despite how painful it has been not seeing family members and not being able to attend the funerals of loved ones.

"How these youngsters think they are exempt from this is beyond me. They might not catch coronavirus, but they could pass it on to someone else and that is a worrying fact.

"They are putting everyone at risk. They are putting two fingers up to the law."

Coun Warren added: "Obviously there are concerns regarding what goes on at raves and the condition that people get themselves in. If you're in the middle of a field, it's not the easiest for authorities to get to you if you're in trouble.

"We're still in a pandemic and then there's all the environmental impacts. There's tents, gazebos, litter and cans that have all been left there.

"As residents, we feel quite disappointed. It's disrupting people's lives - what are people supposed to do if that have to get up for work in the morning?"

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Police were called shortly after 9.35am on Sunday 28 June 2020 to reports of an illegal rave at Moses Gate Country Park in Bolton.

"Officers attended and dispersed the remaining group.

"No arrests were made. Amplifiers and music equipment were seized."
