Teenagers club together to pay for elderly woman's taxi after she's stuck on wrong side of bomb squad cordon

Kind-hearted teenagers clubbed together to pay for an elderly woman's taxi in Salford after a huge cordon meant she was unable to walk home.

Worsley Road in Eccles was taped off by police after a device was found on Wednesday afternoon.

Homes were evacuated as the bomb squad prepared to detonate the suspicious package.

The elderly lady was stuck on the wrong side of the cordon, until a group of teenage girls collected money to pay for her taxi home.

Charlie Sykes, 13, Danae Mahoney, 13, Ruby Dixon, 14, and Kaydi Warren, 12, said they helped the woman as she was there 'for a while' getting cold.

Local police posted about the thoughtful gesture on the GMP Eccles Facebook page.

They posted a picture of the girls huddled together to gather change to pay for the journey.

PC Carl Blower told the Manchester Evening News : "The elderly lady lives on the other side of the cordon and she started to feel a chill. I put her in the car, and (the girls) said they would phone a taxi and pay for it. With everything that's going on, it's so nice to see."

Kaydi's mum Vicky said: "I have had a few people message me. It's great to hear it. As a lot of people have said, it's always the bad stuff you hear about. When they do something like this, it makes you proud."

Danae's mum Nicola added: "I'm proud of her and her friends. Danae has always looked out for others and is a well liked person with a lot of people."

Ruby's dad Mark said that he was 'really proud' of his daughter and her friends.

Charlie's mum Rebecca added: "She's an amazing young girl. We got a phone call from police and you think the worse. They said 'just to let you know what Charlie and her friends have done'. You feel extremely proud."

Lots of people from the community posted comments expressing their praise for the generous teens.

One person wrote: "Pleasant suprise(sic) for Eccles, not all kids are bad, some actually care x"

While another commented: "More great kids in Eccles than bad, and it's no surprise we just dont(sic) hear about them xx

"Awww well done to them all. There(sic) parents must be feeling ecstatic right now knowing that they've raised these beautiful lot", another person said.
