Three teenagers charged with the murder of a former Great Britain taekwondo star have appeared in court.
Amrou Greenidge, 18, was riding his bike through Fulham, south-west London, on Sunday when he was hit by a car before being attacked while on the ground. He died in hospital on Tuesday.
Connor Gwynn-Bliss, 19, of Hammersmith, west London, and two boys aged 16 and 17, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at the Old Bailey on Friday charged with his killing.
Gwynn-Bliss is also charged with arson.
A provisional trial date of 10 February was set for the same court. All three defendants were remanded in custody.
Tributes to Mr Greenidge, of Fulham, have poured in since his death.
GB Taekwondo said in a statement that he had been a “well known and popular” member of the squad and had represented the country at the Cadet European Championships and the Cadet World Championships in 2015.
Michael Georgiou, his former coach at Fusion Taekwondo club in Peckham, south London, added: “His charisma and his spirit would just come alive when he was fighting. He was so full of life and just a really good kid.”
He added: “All the younger kids looked up to him, but I don’t think he realised what a role model he was. Honestly, I’ve never seen a talent like his in my life.”
