Two teenagers have been charged after a police pursuit in Newcastle in which a vehicle allegedly travelled 110km/h in a 40km/h zone.
Police were patrolling Parkway Avenue at Cooks Hill just after 3.30am on Wednesday when they saw a black Volvo SUV driving at speed.
Police will allege in court that the vehicle was stolen from Merewether earlier that morning.
Officers tried to stop the Volvo for a random breath test of the driver, but they initiated a chase when the SUV continued along Union Street.
Police stopped the pursuit for safety reasons, but spotted the vehicle in Parkway Avenue again about an hour later.
A second pursuit began through Cooks Hill, with the vehicle allegedly reaching speeds of 110km/h in a 40 zone.
The vehicle hit a tree on Darby Street, near King Street, and police arrested two boys - aged 14 and 15.
The 15-year-old was charged with police pursuit - not stop - driving dangerously and drive conveyance taken without consent of owner.
The 14-year-old was charged with having custody of a knife in a public place and being carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
Both were refused bail to face a children's court.
