Teenagers arrested after Blackpill Lido cooking oil vandalism are released on bail

Two people arrested in connection with cooking oil being poured into Blackpill Lido have been released on bail.

Police confirmed the arrests of boys aged 16 and 15 on suspicion of criminal damage yesterday, the day after the attraction reopened to the public following the vandalism on August 1.

Police had earlier released CCTV images of two people they wanted to speak to in connection with the attack.

This is what happened at the lido:

Vandalism at Blackpill Lido

A South Wales Police spokesman said today the boys had been released on police bail pending further investigation.

The Swansea lido had to be completely drained and scrubbed with chemicals, before being jet washed to remove all the remaining oil.

It was refilled at the weekend after council workers cleaned the filters, pipework and tanks.

The closure was the second of the summer, after vandals shattered glass in the pool in June.

Some of the youngsters admitted their guilt for that attack and later took part in restorative justice, doing a litter pick at Blackpill.

Police are asking for anyone with information on the latest vandalism incident to call 101, quoting occurrence 1900281505.
