Two teenagers have been arrested after a ‘stolen’ golf buggy was taken into a McDonald’s drive-thru, police have said.
The vehicle was seen at the fast-food chain’s branch in Catterick, North Yorkshire, at 3.45am on Tuesday.
Officers acted after becoming suspicious that the nearby Catterick Golf Club probably wasn’t open and probably wouldn’t allow members to take buggies off site for a quick Big Mac.
The driver and his passenger, both male, and aged 18 and 19, were detained on suspicion of theft.
In a Facebook post, North Yorkshire Police revealed it was the "most unusual job of the night" but joked officers had managed to "avoid a high-speed pursuit."
It said: "The driver has been arrested for theft and driving whilst unfit through drink. A few interesting questions for him to answer in interview".
A spokesman later told The Independent his passenger had also been arrested at the scene.
The incident inspired a number of light-hearted responses after the report gathered traction on social media.
One poster replied: "Hope he enjoyed his tee." But another took the issue more seriously: “While this is undeniably funny,” the Facebook user said, “they also could have caused a very serious accident.”
It remains unknown if the pair managed to get their burgers before their arrest.
