Teenager wielding knife in town centre arrested

A teenage boy carrying a large knife in a town centre has been arrested.

Merseyside Police received reports of a boy carrying a knife on Baldwin Street in St Helens at 9.40pm on Monday November 8.

The boy was spotted on College Street and officers chased him onto Cotham Street where a knife was found.

He was taken to a police station in Merseyside for questioning by detectives and has now been released under investigation.

Earlier that day at 4.20pm officers recovered three mopeds from a wooded area on Redgate Drive. The vehicles are suspected to be stolen and two of them were found burnt out on a field.

Inspector Robert Budden said: "Thanks to the swift action of our officers who stopped the boy on Cotham Street a dangerous weapon has been recovered that could have gravely injured someone and affected the lives of others in St Helens.

A knife and a stolen moped were seized by Merseyside Police (Merseyside Police)

“The arrest shows that we will not allow such weapons to threaten the safety of others on our streets and target those who carry them.”
