Teenager who died at caravan park pictured as brother charged with murder

The teenage girl allegedly murdered by her brother at a caravan park in Wales has been identified as Amanda Selby.

Amanda, 15, died after emergency services were called to an incident at the Ty Mawr Holiday Park in Towyn, near Abergele in North Wales, on Saturday July 31.

Her brother Matthew Selby, 19, has been charged with her murder.

A reporting restriction which banned the naming of the deceased girl on Tuesday was lifted by Judge Rhys Rowlands.

No pleas were entered and Mr Selby was remanded into custody.

Amanda's high school, Droylsden Academy, where she was a Year 10 pupil, has publicly expressed its condolences.

A spokesperson for the school said staff and students are "devastated", describing her as a "lovely student" who would be "sorely missed by staff and students".

They said they were planning a tribute to her 'when the time is right'.

The school said: "Our school is saddened to have received the tragic news that one of our students, Amanda Selby in Year 10, has lost her life whilst on holiday with her family in Wales.

"Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with Amanda’s family at what is an incredibly difficult time.

"Our school family is devastated by this awful news.

"Amanda was a lovely student and she will be sorely missed by students and staff.

"Clearly, many members of our school community will be affected by this loss and we will be offering support to those who need it in the weeks and months ahead.

"We will also plan a tribute when the time is right so that we can remember all that Amanda brought to our school."

A spokesman for the holiday camp said: "Our thoughts are with the friends and family of those involved."

Matthew Selby, of Windermere Crescent, Ashton-under-Lyne made a brief, initial appearance at Llandudno Magistrates' Court earlier this week, before his appearance this morning at the Crown Court.

No details of the allegation were given.

Police haven't revealed a cause of death.

North Wales Police said previously: "We would ask the public not to speculate about this incident on social media as this is an active investigation."

A provisional trial date has been set for February 28, 2022 and is anticipated to last for five to seven days.
