Teenager taken to hospital with suspected back injury after crash in Gatley

A teenager has been taken to hospital after he had to be cut from a car in Gatley.

Emergency services were called to Northenden Road shortly after 12.30pm on Tuesday afternoon to reports of a crash between two cars.

Fire crews had to cut a man, believed to be 17, from the vehicle he had been travelling in. He was taken to hospital with a suspected back injury.

Pictures from the scene show a silver BMW and an unidentifiable red car, which has been badly damaged at the front.

Northenden Road was shut in both directions on Tuesday afternoon and has since reopened.

A spokesperson for Manchester Fire and Rescue said: "At 12:37 p.m. on Tuesday 28 January, two fire engines from Cheadle and Withington and the Technical Response Unit from Ashton-under-Lyne attended a road traffic collision involving two vehicles in Gatley.

"Firefighters used cutting gear to extricate one casualty from a vehicle before handing over to colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service.

"Crews were in attendance for approximately thirty minutes."

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 12.26 to reports of a road traffic collision and an ambulance attended.

"We have taken a man in his late teens to hospital with a back injury."
