Teenager taken to hospital with serious injury after crashing into lamppost

A teenager has been taken to hospital after his motorbike collided with a lamppost in Blackley.

Emergency services were called to Victoria Avenue at around 5.18pm on Monday (March 8) to reports of a road traffic accident.

Paramedics attended and found that the victim's bike had hit a nearby street light.

The boy - understood to be in his teens - was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury, North West Ambulance Service confirmed.

Pictures show a number of police vehicles, an ambulance and rapid response vehicle stationed at the scene on Monday evening.

A large crowd of people appeared to have gathered on Victoria Avenue following the incident.

Local residents could be seen speaking to police officers.

A spokesperson for NWAS said: "We attended an incident on Victoria Avenue where a motorbike hit a lamppost.

"We’ve taken a teenage boy to hospital with serious leg injuries."

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for more information.
