Teenager taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Fenham

A teenage boy who was hit by a car while riding his bike in Newcastle has been taken to hospital.

Emergency services were called to Netherby Drive near to the Two Ball Lonnen junction in Fenham just before 4pm on Friday.

A teenage boy who was riding a bike had been knocked down by a car.

Paramedics treated the boy on scene before he was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle to receive treatment for leg injuries.

Police officers were also investigating the crash after being called by the ambulance service.

The road remained open to drivers despite the collision.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We got a call at 3.45pm from a passer-by reporting a road traffic collision between a car and a cyclist.

"We took a teenage boy to the RVI with leg injuries."
