Teenager taken to hospital after being attacked by group in Cardiff's Llandaff Fields

A teenage boy was taken to hospital after allegedly being attacked by a group of youths in Cardiff's Llandaff Fields on Sunday evening.

The 14-year-old boy was left shaken and covered in bruises and swollen after being attacked before a member of the public intervened.

It's understood the group set upon the boy twice and had gone in for a third time when they were called out by some passing adults, who then called the police.

Witnesses described being "intimidated" after observing a group of boys running over with balaclavas. They said: "Not the lovely walk in Pontcanna that it should have been; [it] should be a safe place for all."

South Wales Police confirmed officers were sent to Llandaff Fields after receiving reports of "an assault on a teenage boy by a group of youths" just before 6pm on Sunday. People living in the area reported seeing a police helicopter circling over the popular park and officers remained at the scene afterwards.

A spokesman for the force added: "We are continuing to investigate an assault upon a 14 year-old boy which happened at around 6.00pm on Sunday (August 22) near the play area in Llandaff Fields, Pontcanna.

"A group of around eight male youths was seen to assault the victim who suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

"There will be a raised police presence in the area and officers will be carrying out increased patrols throughout Llandaff Fields."

Anyone who witnessed the assault or who has any information which will help identify those who were responsible should contact South Wales Police quoting reference 2100295989.
