Teenager suffers life-changing injuries after being stabbed during fight outside Indian restaurant

A teenager has been stabbed during a fight between ‘a group of youths’ outside a restaurant in Bury.

A 16-year-old boy suffered serious ‘life-changing’ injuries during the incident, which happened outside the eastZeast restaurant on Bury New Road, in Whitefield.

The injured boy was rushed to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of violent disorder.

He remains in custody and is due to be questioned by detectives later today.

Officers are now speaking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV footage to try and establish what happened during the attack, which happened just before 10pm on Saturday night (March 30).

Detective Inspector Andrew Naismith, of Greater Manchester Police’s Bury district, appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

He said: “A teenager is now in hospital with injuries that are thought to be life-changing as a result of this incident last night and our thoughts are very much with him and his family at this awful time.

“Detectives are working around the clock to establish what happened and a teenager will be questioned by our team in custody today as part of our enquiries.

“We are currently speaking to a number of witnesses and reviewing lots of CCTV footage but I would urge anyone with any information to get in touch as a matter of urgency.”

A GMP spokesperson said: “Shortly before 9.55pm on Saturday 30 March 2019, police were called to a disturbance at eastZeast restaurant on Bury New Road involving a dispute between a group of youths.

“Officers attended and a 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He remains in a stable condition.

“A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and remains in custody for questioning.

“A full investigation has been launched and detectives are urging anyone with information to contact police.”
