Teenager suffers horrific injuries after being 'battered' by gang on bus... his dad says police were too slow to respond

A teenager ended up in hospital after he was attacked by a group of lads on a bus in south Manchester.

The 17-year-old had been on the way to the gym when he claims he was approached by a group of five or six teenagers.

He had been sitting on the upper deck of the number 50 Stagecoach service from Burnage at around 8.30pm on Wednesday (June 30) when he was set upon.

It is understood the group, who the boy claims he didn't know, began talking to him and 'making a fuss.'

When he ignored them, the boy's dad, who asked to go by the name Mr Malik, says the lads grabbed his son, and began punching him to the head and face.

"My son is only 17-years-old and he was just on the bus to go the gym," Mr Malik said.

"On the bus there was a group of four or five guys. They were sitting in front of him and then they were creating a fuss.

"My son didn’t respond to them. He had never had any communication with these people before.

"Then they grabbed him. They started punching him in the head and face."

Mr Malik says the bus driver was forced to pull over and stop the attack, before the group ran off towards Old Hall Lane.

His older brother took the youngster to Accident and Emergency, where he was treated for his injuries before being discharged.

Mr Malik claims despite reporting the assault to police at the time on Wednesday evening, they didn't attend his house until around 7am this morning (July 1).

He says it is the second time in the past couple of years that his son has been attacked.

"They came this morning whilst my son was resting," Mr Malik said.

"My son phoned the police at the time and then I phoned them. They said it had only been 14 minutes since the report so they wouldn't investigate until the morning.

"I know they will probably come back in a week's time or something.

"If this happened to the right person they would do something but for my son they won’t.

"Yet if we do anything wrong then they will come but when you are the victim they just don't come."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed they were called to Birchfields Road in Manchester at around 8.55pm on Wednesday evening.

No arrests have been made, they said.

When claims about the delay to investigate from GMP were put to the force, they declined to comment.
