A teenager was stabbed multiple times in the back during a brutal attack in Liverpool city centre.
Emergency services were called to Mathew Street at around 1am on Wednesday morning to reports that a 17-year-old had been stabbed close to the junction of Stanley Street.
The victim was rushed to hospital but is reportedly not co-operating with police.
Officers investigating the incident arrested a 16-year-old from Huyton a short time after the incident on suspicion of a Section 18 assault with intent and he was taken to a police station for enquiries.
He was later released with no further action.
It is believed that door staff from a nearby club on Mathew Street rushed to help the victim after the attack with one man performing first aid until emergency services arrived.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: We have arrested a teenager and are appealing for information following an assault in Mathew Street, Liverpool City Centre in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 17 April.

"At 1am, officers were called to Mathew Street at the junction of Stanley Street to reports of a 17-year-old male being stabbed, sustaining puncture wounds to his back.
"The victim was taken to hospital for treatment but is not co-operating with police at this time.
"Following enquiries, a 16-year-old male from Huyton was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault with intent and taken to a police station for questioning.
"He has since been released with no further action to be taken."

CCTV, forensic and witness enquiries are ongoing at the scene but the teenager's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Detective Inspector Paul Speight said: "At this stage, the circumstances around this incident are unclear and the victim is not assisting us.
"I would therefore appeal to anyone in the area around 1am who saw any altercation or may have captured footage on dashcam, phones or other devices to come forward, and help us take action."
