Teenager stabbed in town centre attack in broad daylight

Detectives are investigating after a teenage boy was stabbed in Ashton-under-Lyne town centre.

The 18-year-old victim was knifed in the back on Stamford Street Central at around 2pm on Tuesday.

The attacker ran away following the incident.

No arrests have been made, police said.

Photos from the scene showed an area around the pavement was cordoned off following the attack.

A police car was parked up next to the taped-off area.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly after 2.10pm on Tuesday, June 18, officers were called to reports that a male had been stabbed on Stamford Street Central in Ashton-under-Lyne.

"The victim, who is believed to be aged 18, has been taken to hospital with slash wounds to the back."

An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing, the spokesman said.
