Teenager spent £130 on McDonald's to try and win the £100k Monopoly cash prize

A teenager who splurged £130 on food from McDonald's in a desperate attempt to win £100,000 on it's Monopoly game was left "gutted" when she failed to win the top prize.

Saffron Barker, 19, and a friend splashed out on tasty treats for themselves, friends and family in a vlog they've shared online.

They had hoped they'd scoop the top £100,000 prize on the McDonald's Monopoly, a promotion the fast food giant often runs to encourage customers to complete the game board in exchange for gifts and free food.

But McDonald's Monopoly came under fire this week after Girl can't have her free fries in McDonald's Monopoly due to small print

And Saffron too was under-whelmed with her experience in Brighton, East Sussex.

Despite forking out the huge sum, the most she and her pal won was a Kindle book and a few meals and snacks from McDonald's.

In the video, they are seen reading "carrot bag or sugar doughnut" several times - one of the cheaper and smaller prizes in the game.

"We tried. It feels like its £131 down the drain," Saffron says in the clip.

The young woman, who has been blogging since she was around 16, adds: "We are a little bit gutted.

"We don't recommend anyone doing this."

But Saffron does treat her mum to the Kindle book in a warm moment in the 14-minute video.

They had previously loaded the boot of a car full of food after a huge order at the restaurant.

All food that wasn't eaten was given to pals.

Saffron's video has been viewed more than 785,000 times since it was uploaded to YouTube on Sunday.

Since then, Lynsey Mead complained about her experience with her daughter in Hull.

"My problem mainly is that you wouldn't sell a child a lottery ticket and then a scratch card, but not be able to scratch it off or claim the fortune," the mum-of-one said.

"If I'd have been with her, I'm sure it would be fine, but McDonald's need to stop this promotion."
