Teenager shows how 'real men don't carry knives they carry their nan's shopping'

A nan has praised her "lovely grandson" after a picture of him carrying her shopping went viral on Facebook.

Bernie Brice, from Kirkby was out shopping with her daughter, Louise Rogers and grandson, Sean Rogers, when the kindhearted 15-year-old stepped in to carry her heavy bags.

The nan-of-six said she wanted to show off her grandson's impeccable manners, following a spate of crime in her area.

Bernie told the ECHO: "We went shopping last Friday and when we arrived home he jumped out first and took out all the shopping.

"There has been a lot of bad press about teenagers recently so I just thought this was a lovely thing to do- it's something nice to hear about rather than knife or gun crime and robberies."

Bernie, who claimed there had been a shooting and a young man stabbed in her area recently, said how she was "frightened" for teenagers.

She added: "I am frightened for the young generation to go out even if it's just going on a bike ride, it's scary that they could take their bike off them or something."

Sean's mum, Louise, decided to take a quick snap of her son with the shopping and post it on Facebook with the caption 'real men don't carry knives, they carry their nan's shopping.'

The mum-of-two said she had seen the caption elsewhere online and in that moment Sean's heartwarming gesture reminded her of that.

Speaking to the ECHO, the 33-year-old said: "A while ago I saw a photo on Facebook with the same caption and Sean reminded me of that.

"He only came with me to carry the shopping because it was wet - it's just the type of person he is, just dead caring.

"I just thought with what is going on with teens at the moment I would share - I just thought it was brilliant."

The Facebook post has since had over 12,000 shares and 3,000 likes with many commenting on the 15-year-old's brilliant actions.

Mum-of-two, Louise added: "He is the most caring and loving kid ever, just full of love -he's just as helpful with his other nan."

Bernie also said how well mannered and caring her teenage grandson is.

She said: "We are very close and he helps out. He is a lovely, pleasant boy and would help anybody."
