A teenager was shot dead while celebrating her 15th birthday and her family are still in the dark as to who killed her and why.
Maria Paula Castaneda Callejas, said to be from a low income family, could not afford to throw her own party so went to celebrate with her brother at a friend's gathering instead.
The siblings joined the party in Tolima, Columbia, at about 5pm and Maria was allegedly shot by a woman who arrived three hours later.
Maria was taken to hospital critically injured, but medics sadly confirmed her death, Yahoo News reports.
One of her sisters, Luisa Fernanda Garzon, said the family still didn't know who would have wanted to shoot Maria and why.
It is not clear who the woman alleged to have shot Maria was or if they knew each other.
According to reports, the family first learned of the tragedy when Maria's brother phoned their mum to ask for her identity card so she could receive treatment.
But when the family arrived at hospital, she had already died.
The Public Prosecutor's Office is now investigating.
There have not been any arrests yet.
