Teenager sexually assaulted in sickening street attack

A teenager was pushed to the ground and sexually assaulted during a sickening street attack.

Detectives today launched a witness appeal after the horrific incident which saw the 18-year-old victim bundled to the ground during the early hours of Sunday.

Police today confirmed the "serious sexual assault" happened when the victim was set upon and pushed to the ground in Henderson Road, Widnes around 3.30am yesterday.

Following the attack the offender fled the scene in the direction of Cameron Road.

He is described as a white man, approximately 25 years old, of medium build and was wearing dark coloured clothing.

Unsurprisingly the victim has been left traumatised by the attack say detectives who urged anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Ian Whiley from Widnes CID said: “The victim is traumatised following her ordeal and is currently being supported by specialist officers.

“I urge anyone who has any information which may assist with our enquiries to come forward.

“We want to speak to anyone who believes they may have witnessed something that is relevant to our investigation.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any other information that may help detectives with their investigation is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101, quoting IML 455718, give the details via https://cheshire.police.uk/contact/general-enquiries or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Chief Inspector Simon Parsonage, from Widnes Local Poling unit added: “I would like to reassure the local community that incidents such as this are rare in the Widnes area and we are doing all that we can to establish exactly what has taken place."
