Teenager seriously injured after quad bike crash in Sunderland

A teenager was taken to hospital with serious head injuries after a quad bike crash in Sunderland.

The 19-year-old rider was injured after the quad bike he was riding left the road at the junction of Baxter Road and Bergen Street in Sunderland yesterday (May 6).

Police were called to the scene by the ambulance service shortly before 7pm and the rider was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening at this time.

Northumbria Police have since launched an investigation as officers look to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision and have now asked for any witnesses to come forward.

PC Steven Hackett, of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols Department, said: “This was a serious incident that has left a young man with a significant head injury. He remains in hospital and his family are being supported by specialist family liaison officers at this time.

“We are carrying out a range of enquiries as we ascertain what caused this collision and the events that immediately preceded the rider coming off his quad bike.

“I would now ask anybody who saw the incident, or believes they saw the rider in the area in the moments before the collision, to come forward as soon as possible.”
