Teenager put in coma after vicious town centre assault - now police want to speak to these people

Police have released a CCTV image after a teenager was put into an induced coma following a shocking town centre attack.

Officers want to speak to the two people on the right of the image after a 19-year-old man was punched in Tameside.

They believe the pair could have information which could assist with their investigation.

The incident took place at around 3.40am on Sunday, November 28, on Market Street in Stalybridge.

Greater Manchester Police says that the victim was treated at the scene by ambulance staff and at hospital for a bleed on the brain.

He was put into an induced coma until his condition stabilised and spent five days in hospital.

Thankfully, the young man has now recovered and is not believed to have sustained any lasting damage.

A 19-year-old woman was also struck to the ground in the same incident but was uninjured.

Det Con Ryan O'Hanlon, of Ashton-under-Lyne CID, said: "This happened near to The White House pub and we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident.

"It was captured on CCTV and [we] hope the two people in the footage can assist us with our enquiries.

"The male is white, around 5ft 8ins with dark hair wearing dark coloured jeans or trousers, a grey or light green padded jacket and a grey hoody.

"The female is also white, with dark hair, wearing a knee-length black coat, black trousers or leggings, and white trainers."

Anyone with information about the assault should contact Det Con O'Hanlon on 0161 856 9262, quoting incident number 518 of November 28, 2021.

Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously by calling 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
