Teenager pleads not guilty to public order offence after cop used Taser to control Piccadilly Gardens mob

A teenager has pleaded not guilty to a public order offence in Piccadilly Gardens.

Naraiah Ellison, 19, of Higher Blakeley was arrested during an incident in Piccadilly Gardens on July 24 where police used a Taser stun gun to control a braying mob as a man was pinned to the ground.

The officers were pelted with missiles and surrounded by a group of about 100 people during the incident, according to Greater Manchester Police.

Ellison pleaded not guilty to using threatening and abusive behaviour with the intent to cause unlawful violence at Salford and Manchester Magistrates in Crown Square.

Defending, Mr Moussalli, said Ellison hit a police car with a silver balloon canister accidentally, accepted that he was littering, but said there was no intention.

He was given conditional bail and ordered to stay away from the Piccadilly Gardens area.

Ellison's case was adjourned until December 9 and three police officers are to be called as witnesses.
