Teenager pinned to ground and robbed by gang of ten youths in Cork

A teenager was pinned to the ground and robbed by a large group of youths in Cork on Thursday evening.

The 15-year-old was walking with his girlfriend in Blackpool at 6:30pm when a group of around 10 males approached the pair.

After trying to rob the teenage girl's jacket, the boy was pinned down and had his phone and some cash taken.

The boy's sister, Caitlyn Cronin told CorkBeo: "My brother and his girl friend were walking towards the Bridge Inn Pub in Blackpool and a group came out of an alley and approached my brother.

"They said 'come here you youngfella, I want ya' so my brother and his girlfriend started panicking and stopped.

"They came around them in a big bunch, took his girlfriend's jacket and her phone but she got them back but by a struggle.

"Then they huddled around my brother and pinned him to search him they took his phone and said if you don’t give the pin your getting a beaten so he obviously handed it over.

"It wouldn’t be fair one person fighting 10 people, he came straight over to me shook and nearly crying, not because of the phone but because he’s so quiet and he minds his own business and now he can never walk to his sisters house again without an adult supervision because of what happened.

"It’s an absolute disgrace the carry on of young people, even adults too, no one is safe on these streets anymore not a man woman or child."

Gardai confirmed they are looking into the incident but no one has been arrested at this moment in time.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí at Watercourse Rd in Cork are investigating an incident which occurred at Redemption Rd, Farranree at approximately 6.30pm, Thursday 24th October 2019, two youths (both teenagers)were approached by a number of other youths (all believed to be teenagers) who searched them and took a small amount of cash.

"Investigations are continuing and no arrests have been made."
