CHICAGO _ A 14-year-old boy who was shot to death in the Pilsen neighborhood was among 14 people hit by gunfire within seven hours from late Saturday to early Sunday.
Chicago had gone about 11 hours without a shooting Saturday when the 7-hour period began about 10:20 p.m. Three people were killed and 12 others were wounded in separate attacks across the city from Saturday to Sunday.
The teenager was with two other boys about 2:35 a.m. outside a home when people inside a passing car yelled gang slogans at the them, police said. Someone in the car then opened fire, striking the boy in the head.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was identified as Damien Santoyo, according to a relative and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
In the Clearing neighborhood on the Southwest Side, a woman killed a man who had hit her, police said.
Just before 5:20 a.m. Sunday, a 30-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man were involved in a domestic altercation. The man hit the woman, who then pulled out a gun and shot the man three times, police said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman was detained pending criminal charges.
About 10:40 p.m. Saturday, a 39-year-old man was shot and killed while in a car on the South Side.
Someone shot him several times in the torso. He drove into the fence of a home.
He was pronounced dead at a hospital, according to police.
