A teenager has died after an accident while working in Waterford.

Gardaí responded to a call about a workplace incident on Wednesday afternoon near Dungarvan.

A teenage boy was killed in what is understood to be an accident involving a dumper truck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene in the Hacketstown area.

A Garda spokesman said: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a workplace accident in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford on Wednesday 16th June 2021. A male was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The Health and Safety Authority have been notified. A file will be prepared for the Coroner."

The incident came on the same day that another teenager died after an accident at an equestrian centre in Dublin.

Gardai rushed to the scene at Greenogue at around 2pm on Wednesday.

Members of the Fire Brigade and the National Ambulance Service also attended the scene of the incident on Tay Lane in Rathcoole.

The 15-year-old girl suffered injuries during an "exercise event" at the centre.

She was taken to Children's Health Ireland in Crumlin, where she later died.

The Health and Safety Authority is expected to carry out an examination of the scene on Thursday.
