Teenager injured in Blackmans Bay police shooting charged with assault, theft

A Tasmanian teenager who allegedly drove at police before a shooting incident at Blackmans Bay is facing eight separate charges.

The 17-year-old boy is alleged to have driven a stolen car at police in the early hours of Saturday morning, hitting an officer in the leg before running into the police car.

Police said the male officer fired his gun at the driver's side of the car.

The boy received a head injury and is in a stable condition in Royal Hobart Hospital.

On Monday afternoon police announced they had charged the boy with serious offences including committing an unlawful act intended to cause bodily harm, assaulting police and dangerous driving.

He was also charged with summary offences including evading police, motor vehicle stealing and driving while disqualified.

The teenager will appear in a special bedside court sitting in hospital, at a time yet to be arranged.

The police officer was treated for a minor leg injury and was discharged from hospital on the weekend.
