Teenager in court accused of murdering 18-year-old who was found in woodland

A teenager has appeared in court accused of murdering an 18-year-old man who was found dead in woodland.

The 17-year-old accused did not enter a plea to the charge, during a hearing at Preston Crown Court and spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and nationality.

The body of Alex Davies , from Skelmersdale , was discovered in a wooded area off Parbold Hill in Parbold, Lancashire, on May 1.

The teenager had been reported missing the day before.

A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death as stab wounds and asphyxiation.

The accused youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear at the same court for a further preliminary hearing on September 2.

 A provisional trial date has been fixed for a week later on September 9.
