YALA: A young man was injured after a pipe bomb was thrown at a police booth in Bannang Sata district in this southern province at noon on Saturday.

Police said the explosive hit a bunker in front of the police booth near Krungthai Bank’s Bannang Sata branch in tambon Bannang Sata.

A passer-by, Anwar Lakohma, 17, of Bannang Sata, was cut in the arm by shrapnel.

The impact created a hole in front of a bunker. Pieces of a PVC pipe and shrapnel were found in the area.

They estimated the damage was caused by a 1kg pipe bomb.

According to a preliminary investigation, while policemen were performing their duty inside the booth, two teenagers on a motorcycle rode by and threw the bomb at it.

Authorities believe the incident was an attempt to create unrest in the last 10 days the Ramadan month ending on Tuesday.
