A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses in relation to an aggravated burglary that occurred on the 3rd January, 2020 at a house in Ard Bhaile, Mayfield.

"At approximately 1:45am, two men entered the house armed with what is believed to be a hammer and a knife.

"A man late teens who was in the house at the time was taken to Cork University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"No arrests have been made and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Mayfield Garda Station on 021-4558510, The Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station."

This comes after two other burglaries in Cork's northside in the first three days of 2020 - both of which took place on the Old Youghal Road.

Gardai are investigating both, one of which saw the burglar enter the house armed with a knife although nobody was injured.
