Teenager goes viral with potentially lifesaving safety tips for women

A teen sharing some potentially lifesaving safety tips for women and girls has gone viral on TikTok.

Canadian Spencer Barbosa revealed some practical ways in which women can protect themselves both on social media and in real-life situations such as when they are being followed.

"These are personal safety tips that could literally save your life," the 18-year-old emphasised in a clip shared to the social media platform.

She added: "You need to know this."

As reported by The Mirror, Spencer explains in the video that women are statistically more likely to be attacked in stairwells than they are lifts, and that they should always take the latter in in doubt.

"Stop keeping your car keys right at the front door when you enter the house, that is not a good idea Instead," she added.

"It's a really good idea to keep your car key on your nightstand. If anything happens at night, you can grab your car key, press your panic button and the alarm will go off."

One tip in particular may surprise many people, particularly those who leave the house wearing a ponytail every day.

"It is so pathetic for me to say this, but do not wear your hair in a ponytail when you go for a run, it is such an easy thing to grab and pull you onto the floor," the teen explained.

"Do not overshare on social media. I see so many young girls sharing their locations, telling people they're home alone, just don't."

She went on to say that if you're ever out and about, and get the feeling that someone is following you, you should turn around so they can see your face.

"A group of rapists interviewed said that the target becomes less attractive to them after they've seen their face," Spencer explained.

And, last but not least, she suggested that women and girls should arm themselves with a mini bottle of hairspray, because it's legal to carry around and "will hurt like s*** if you spray it in someone's eyes."
