Teenager fined heavily after being caught double over the limit while driving

A teenager has been heavily fined after being caught drink-driving.

The 17-year-old, who can’t be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to being double the drink-drive limit when he was stopped by police in Motherwell on July 28.

A breath test found the teen had 48 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 22 microgrammes.

The youngster also admitted driving a car without insurance and resisting arrest in Coursington Road.

During that incident, the teenager pushed the door of a police vehicle to stop officers from getting out, ran away from them and then refused to co-operate with them.

However, the accused was cleared of driving a car without the consent of the owner, driving without a licence and failing to stop when asked to do so by a police officer.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court this week, Sheriff David Bicket fined the 17-year-old a total of £900 and banned him from getting behind the wheel for the next 12 months.
