Teenager due in court after gardai seize suspected firearm and drugs

Gardai have seized a suspected firearm and €2,000 worth of drugs following a search of a property in Dublin on Friday, August 6.

The action was part of Operation Tara and a male in his teens has been charged and is due to appear in court on Saturday, August 7.

Operation Tara continues to bring results, with a strong focus on tackling street-level dealing in cities, towns and villages across the country.

The national anti-drugs strategy was initiated on July 1 and the goal of the initiative is to protect communities from the scourge of illegal drugs in line with An Garda Siochana’s mission of keeping people safe.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels - international, national and local - involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.

Under Operation Tara, individuals and groups involved in the drug trade are the target of enforcement activity based on intelligence and the latest crime trends.

The uninterrupted policing of organised crime at a national level and the considerable increase in the size of divisional drug units has seen significant amounts of drugs seized and arrests.
