Teenager dies near Strathclyde University in Glasgow as police probe incident

Police have launched an investigation after a teenager died following an incident near Strathclyde University in the early hours of this morning.

The 18-year-old was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment after he was found severely injured in Rottenrow.

However, he sadly died a short time later.

A police spokesman confirmed emergency services attended the scene at around 1.50am, with officers still on site.

The area has been cordoned off to all members of the public.

The spokesman confirmed the death is being treated as “unexplained”.

Rottenrow is the location of the majority of Strathclyde University' halls of residence and student support organisations.

Chief Inspector Craig Walker, Local Area Commander for Glasgow said: “Around 1.50am on Wednesday, 9 December, 2020 emergencies services were called to a report of a man found injured in Rottenrow, Glasgow.

“An 18-year-old man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment where he died a short time later.  His death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.  

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
