Teenager dies in River Clyde tragedy

A 13-year-old boy has tragically died after getting into difficulty while in the River Clyde at the weekend.

Emergency services raced to the scene near Garrion Bridge at around 3.15pm on Sunday.

The teenager was rushed to Glasgow's Royal Hospital for Children for treatment, however police have confirmed that he has sadly died.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

It is understood that particular area is a popular spot for youths gathering and entering the water, especially in warm weather. However, concerns have been raised about the current being "really strong".

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 13-year-old boy has died after getting into difficulty in the River Clyde, near Garrion Bridge.

"Emergency services were contacted around 3.15pm on Sunday, June 13, 2021.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death."
