Teenager died after collapsing in Leeds nightclub

A teenager who died after collapsing in a popular Leeds nightclub may have taken illegal drugs earlier in the night, an inquest heard.

Sebastian Costello collapsed in Church Leeds shortly before 6am on Saturday, May 25 and he was taken to Leeds General Infirmary via ambulance.

The 18-year-old from Bury, who had travelled to the Leeds club with friends, suffered a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at 6.58am, despite the best efforts of medical staff.

When the inquest into his death was opened in Wakefield this week, area coroner Jonathan Leach said: "The deceased travelled to Leeds via train with friends to visit a club and it's believed the deceased took illicit substances during the course of the evening."

He did not give anymore detail about those substances, but the inquest into Mr Costello's death will resume at a later date.

The nightclub, which was inside a grade II listed church, closed at the end of May because the owners of the building took back the lease.

The closure had been announced before Mr Costello's death.
