Teenager damages £150,000 sports car with stone - but doesn't have to pay compensation

A teenager has avoided paying thousands in compensation after damaging a luxury sports car.

Scarlet Jane McPherson, 19, accidentally kicked a stone towards a Lotus Evora GT 410 while she out on a walk in Samford, Brisbane, last month.

But the driver of the £150,000 car and a witness claimed they saw Scarlet "throwing something out on the path" before they heard a loud bang as a rock hit the roof of the vehicle, according to prosecutor Graham Turner.

The teen was picked up by her mother after the furious driver chased her down and called the police, before being interviewed by officers on September 29, more than two-and-a-half weeks after the incident.

Earlier this week she pleaded guilty to placing a stone on the road which had the potential to cause damage to the car - but insisted it was never her intention to cause any malicious damage.

She told The Courier Mail : "I was just skimming stones across the road.

"The car was speeding around a corner, that's why I didn't see it."

McPherson was fined $200 and no conviction was recorded.

The outlet reports she avoided paying up to $10,000 in compensation.
