Teenager chased by men in BMW then stabbed with machete in street

A teenager was seriously injured in a horrific machete attack after he was chased down and stabbed beside a busy road.

The attack took place on Longmoor Lane, Fazakerley, close to the junction with Mosspits lane at around 9.30pm on Sunday.

The victim, an 18-year-old man, was riding his bike beside the road when two men got out from a black BMW X5 with one of the men brandishing a machete.

The two men, described as white and wearing dark clothing, chased the cyclist and stabbed him, with the victim suffering stab wounds to his back, arm and hand.

The attackers then fled the scene on foot towards Mosspits Lane where they are thought to have got back into the same car and drove off.

He was taken to hospital after the attack and his condition is described as stable.

Police have now launched an investigation into the attack and have carried out forensic searches and are currently reviewing CCTV footage.

Detective Inspector Sean Kelly-Martland, of Merseyside Police, said: "We are in the very early stages of an investigation and I would like anyone who witnessed this assault or has ant information please get in touch.

"To use a weapon of any kind is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by Merseyside Police, but the use of a machete to cause serious injury on our streets is appalling and we will do everything in our power to arrest those responsible.

"We are working to establish the exact circumstances so if you saw or heard anything suspicious in Longmoor Lane or the surrounding area at about 9.30pm on Sunday, or have any CCTV or dashcam footage, please let us know.

"We continue to work proactively to educate people of all ages, make arrests and seize weapons so that we can prevent others from being put through ordeals such as this involving knives.

“We have taken knives and offenders off the streets thanks to information from the public, and urge you to keep helping is by telling us where knives are stored and who is carrying them. We will take all reports seriously and take action to make our streets safer.”

Anyone with information on this assault is asked to contact Merseyside Police social media desk via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’.
