Teenager charged with criminal damage after Winston Churchill statue defaced in Parliament Square

A teenager has been charged with criminal damage after the words "is a racist" were daubed on the plinth of the Winston Churchill statue in Parliament Square.

Benjamin Clark, 18, of Hertford, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 9 October.

The statue was defaced with yellow graffiti paint on Thursday, on the final day of Extinction Rebellion’s climate protests in London.

At least 680 people have been arrested in connection with the protests.
