Teenager charged over Darwin crash that killed 24-year-old woman

Emergency services were called to the fatal crash in Knuckey Lagoon about midday.

NT Police have charged a 17-year-old boy involved in a Darwin crash that killed a 24-year-old woman.

Police were called to the crash on McMillans Road in Knuckey Lagoon about midday on Saturday.

Police said the woman was trapped in her vehicle and she died at the scene.

The 17-year-old was charged with driving a motor vehicle causing death, driving without due care, driving with a prohibited drug in the blood and using a mobile phone, among other offences.

In a statement, NT Police said initial indications were that the boy was on the wrong side of the road when the collision occurred.

He has been bailed to appear in court on December 2.

The fatal crash is the second on Darwin's roads since Friday.

On Friday night, a 37-year-old man died after being hit by a vehicle on the Stuart Highway in The Narrows.

Just hours earlier, at 2:00pm, another man was hit by a car on the same strip of road.

According to NT Police's road toll website there have been 22 fatal crashes on Northern Territory roads in 2020.
