A 16-year-old boy has been charged over a Boxing Day row in a shopping centre involving a 2 ft-long machete that saw shoppers running for their lives.
The teenager was arrested at the Intu shopping centre in Bromley, south-east London, on 26 December, after the fight sparked rumours a gunman was on the loose.
The fight reportedly started after a group of youths started to argue in a shoe shop.
Armed police swooped on the shopping centre at around 3:45pm following reports of a man carrying a large knife, and found the boy with a head injury.
Two knives, including a rusty machete, were recovered from the scene while people posted videos on Twitter of panicked shoppers running from the scene.
The 16-year-old has been charged with common assault, violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon and was remanded in custody to appear before Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
A second 16-year-old boy was arrested on Sunday at his home in Lewisham on suspicion of affray.
Metropolitan Police earlier said: "Detectives are seeking to trace a number of youths who ran off from the scene shortly after the incident."
