Teenager charged over 'attempted murder' on Scots street as man critical in hospital

A teenager has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged attempted murder on a Scots street.

A 51-year-old man is fighting for life in hospital after being seriously injured at around 12.05am on Thursday on Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen.

He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he remains in a critical condition.

Police now say they have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the incident and he is expected to appear in court today.

Pictures from the scene yesterday show officers standing guard with a cordon in place while white-suited forensics officers took pictures during the major incident in the Lanarkshire town.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an attempted murder in Rutherglen.

"Around 12.05am, police received a report a man had been seriously assaulted in Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen.

"An 18-year-old man is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday."
