Teenager charged after police officer repeatedly punched in Luton street

A police officer escaped with "just a few bruises" after he was repeatedly punched while responding to an incident in Luton.

Footage circulating on social media shows PC Adam Brown grappling on the floor with his attacker as a baying crowd watch on and cheer.

At one point Pc Brown raises his hands in self-defence as blows rain down on his head, while one of the bystanders can be heard shouting: "Do him, do him, do him. Bang him up."

A woman is seen lying on the floor next to the stricken officer. Following the incident Pc Brown wrote: "Crowd of people on looking find it funny and film it. None tried to help."

A teenage boy, 17, has been charged with the attack, which took place on Friday.

Pc Brown explained that he he been attempting to calm down an "ongoing neighbour dispute" in Thrales Close following reports of an assault.

"For everyone asking, I'm fine. Just a few bruises," he wrote.

"My student was taking a statement and I went outside to try and calm down an ongoing neighbour dispute.

"Which resulted in the male attacking me."

Bedfordshire Police said a 17-year-old boy has been charged with assaulting the police officer.

"The officer suffered minor injuries during the incident, which occurred when responding to reports of an assault," the force said.

"The boy has been released on bail and is due to appear at Luton Youth Court in September."
