Teenager caught carrying knife after police search

Police caught a teenager carrying a knife during a proactive stop - and he appeared before courts within 24 hours.

Amahni Maitland, 19, of Ashwell Gardens in Hyson Green, pleaded guilty to being in possession of a knife after he was searched by officers on patrol on August 17.

He was sentenced to a community order and a rehabilitation activity.

Sergeant Paul Whitehead, of the Nottingham city centre team, said: “This was a fantastic example of how the city centre team proactively works to bring results.

“Carrying a knife or a weapon in public is incredibly dangerous.

"If you have one on you, there is the chance that situations can escalate and lead to serious injury or worse.

"The message from us is clear - if you carry a knife in Nottinghamshire we will find you and put you before the courts and you will could end up with a criminal record.

“We will not tolerate knife crime and we are always working to tackle issues as quickly as possible.

“We also work closely with the public and businesses to gather intelligence that can help inform us of suspicious activities.

"If you have concerns, please report them to us as soon as possible on 101 or speak to an officer on patrol in the city.”
