Teenager behind wheel of BMW tried to run off after three car pile-up - the other drivers had a different idea

The teenage driver of a stolen BMW has been arrested following a three-car pile-up.

Police say the 17-year-old tried to run from the scene in Bolton following the crash but was 'detained by drivers of the other vehicles'.

Enquiries later discovered the BMW had been stolen and the teenager didn't have a licence.

He remains in custody for police questioning.

The crash took place on Spa Road near the town centre at 5pm on Wednesday.

A post on the GMP Bolton South Facebook page said: "Just before 5pm on Wednesday, August 28, police were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on Spa Road, Bolton.

"Strangely the driver of the white BMW wasn’t keen on sticking around and tried to run from the scene, but the drivers of the other vehicles involved were able to detain him until police arrived.

"In the end, their efforts paid off as it turned out the driver was 17 years old, with no licence and the vehicle was an outstanding stolen.
