Teenager 'assaulted police officer while being arrested'

A teenager was held on suspicion of attacking a police officer after he was caught "kicking" the door of a care home.

Police said the internal door at a care home in Fairfield was damaged on Sunday night.

Officers were called to Laurel Road, at about 11.55am, after receiving reports a male was kicking the door of the home.

Once there, officers arrested a teenage boy.

The 16-year-old from Fairfield, police said, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

He was then further arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, and on suspicion of causing damage to a police vehicle.

A spokesman for the force said: "He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue."
