A teenager has been assaulted in broad daylight in an East Lothian theatre car park.

An 18-year-old boy was approached by two males and a female in car park area of the Brunton Theatre on Ladywell Way, Musselburgh.

Just after 4pm on March 8, the men assaulted the victim and then stole items of clothing along with his phone. Police officers in East Lothian are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

The suspects are both described as white males, between 17-18-years-old. The first was around 6ft tall, of slim build, with ginger hair which was long at the top and shorter on the sides. He was wearing black puffer-type jacket and black jeans.

The second suspect was around 5ft 7ins tall, of slim build with dyed red hair. He was wearing dark coloured clothing and was carrying a rucksack.

The stolen clothing was recovered by officers and the mobile phone was handed into Musselburgh Police Station by a member of the public later that evening. The victim did not require hospital treatment.

Detective Sergeant Declan Hogg from Dalkeith CID said: “This incident happened in broad daylight and would have been alarming for any members of the public who saw it.

“We’re especially keen to hear from a woman with a pushchair who we believe was in the area at the time of the incident as she may have seen what happened. Also the woman who handed the mobile phone into Musselburgh Police Station, please get back in touch at your earliest convenience.

“Equally anyone who may have information about the incident, or the suspects involved, is asked to contact officers.”

Those with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 and quote incident number 2404 of 8 March, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
